Phil is a Managing Director at Modern. He leverages his experience as an executive coach, leadership assessor, leadership development designer / deliverer, researcher, and professor to maintain and improve knowledge of the best in leadership development.
Phil has coached over 150 executives ranging from Fortune 100 to startups and nonprofits. He specializes in coaching and assessing executives in Industrial/Manufacturing, Consumer/Retail, and Tech industries. He has also facilitated and led over 200 top team leadership and coaching workshops.
Prior to joining Modern, Phil was Director of Operations for a leadership development firm in Chicago while also co-founding a leadership development consulting firm in China, where he led trainings and coached executives. Fluent in Chinese (Mandarin) and Spanish, Phil has leveraged his cultural and linguistic understanding to more effectively coach leaders from all over the world.
Phil has a Ph.D. in Psychology (Cognitive Neuroscience) from Peking University in Beijing, China, where he conducted research on how leaders generate followership. He also has an M.A. in Transformational Leadership and Coaching, and a B.A. in Psychology from Carleton College. As Professor of Applied Neuroscience, Phil taught M.B.A. and M.A. students leadership development and coaching. Phil is an ICF PCC certified coach.
