Susan Jones

Executive Coach

Modern provides an opportunity to join a team where we can link arms and scale our efforts at creating diverse, inclusive and fully functional work environments that explore and leverage the full strengths and capabilities of every team member.

Susan brings a combined 25 years of legal analysis and operational business experience to her support and development of leaders and organizations across a mix of sectors (tech, financial, retail, healthcare and professional services) and within a variety of contexts (professional services partnerships, Fortune 500 & the vibrant Bay Area start-up community).

Susan spent her early professional years as a lawyer in NYC and later, as in-house counsel at a tech start-up, then a media partnership. Upon moving from NYC to the Bay Area of California, Susan joined McKinsey & Co to eventually lead professional development, coaching and learning functions for the firm’s West Coast office.

In the ten years after leaving McKinsey, Susan built an independent coaching and “custom learning” practice, serving tech giants, start-ups, financial services and professional services firms to help teams and individuals reach their potential, guided by a pragmatic and results-oriented approach, and with a core belief that one’s best path to success is through full awareness and leveraging of their strengths.

Early during COVID-19 quarantine, with a yearning to again be part of a larger team and a broader purpose, Susan joined Bridgebio (BBIO), a biotech start-up in San Francisco as their Executive Director for Talent and Executive Development. Responsible for all aspects of employee experience and growth, Susan gained valuable operational experience in building and maintaining a high performing workplace where everyone is inspired and empowered to contribute their best to a common goal or mission.

In joining Modern, Susan combines her experience and wisdom earned with both an inside and outside perspective, and across a breadth of operational and business environments.

When not coaching, Susan is cooking with her three daughters, sitting beside a soccer field, or walking the trails with her big yellow dog, near where she lives in Oakland, CA.
