Brian Miller is a Senior Partner and Head of the Chief People Officer Practice for Modern. Brian has built a reputation for orchestrating cultural transformations and scaling workforces for high-growth and start-up businesses across multiple industries, including cloud tech, food tech, and biopharma. He has deep expertise and experience leading organizations through change to achieve strategic goals and objectives while making sure to develop leaders and teams to reach their full potential.

Prior to joining Modern, Brian was Adobe Systems’ first Chief Talent, Diversity, and Inclusion Officer. Overseeing more than 400 employees, Brian set forth multiple initiatives including: DE&I dashboards that enabled Evidence-based Decision Making, “Opportunity Velocity”, that unlocked the myths of promotions, as well as a doubling down on Manager Excellence.

Prior to joining Adobe, Brian was the Chief People Officer at Impossible Foods. Brian provided thought leadership and strategic direction to an organization experiencing the challenges of a triple-digit growth rate combined with the COVID-19 crisis. He spearheaded and operationalized Impossible’s compensation strategy including, sales comp, exec comp, and long-term incentive approach, as well as setting the cultural anchors for success.

Leading to his role at Impossible Foods, Brian rose through the ranks at Gilead Sciences, from Director, L&D to Senior Director, Talent & Development, to Vice President of Talent, Development, and Inclusion, in less than 8 years. Brian built the infrastructure and learning organization that enabled a 300%+ workforce expansion. He shifted the corporate mindset to deliver on the promise of being the “Best Place to Learn and Grow”, making sure to embed inclusion, diversity, and equity strategies into all parts of the talent organization, elevating candidate quality, employee engagement, and retention of top talent.

Brian holds a Master of Education from Harvard University, Graduate School of Education and a Bachelor’s degree from University of The Pacific where he was a football scholarship recipient and received All-Big West Football Honors. Brian currently serves on the University of The Pacific Board of Regents on the Finance and Enrollment Committees.
